Official Apology Letter: I Made A Comment That Could Be Detrimental To Your Organization

by The Stonecold Millionaire on July 19, 2010

Hi everyone. I’ve seen many men and women in the public eye do things that damage not only their reputations and credibility by saying stupid things, I’ve also seen that behavior cause a rippling affect and damage the lives of others.

I’ve also seen those same men and women try to hide behind “legalese” or some publicist to try and do “damage control” by doing everything but admitting that they were absolutely wrong…

I’m NOT one of those people.

I’ve come to realize that it is best to stand up, be a man and admit where you’ve gone wrong. In the long and short run, that is always best. I’ve always been able to respect someone who humbles themselves and is genuinely sorry for doing or saying something stupid.

So, today I am that guy.

If you were on my training call about Post-It Note marketing, I made a horrific error in judgment when I drew a comparison of drop cards to this strategy. I didn’t recognize it until it was brought to my attention, and I regretfully apologize for my ignorant comments.

I literally “crapped” on the drop card strategy which has actually made many thousands of dollars and helped to recruit more reps than I can count. It has even helped me, so for me to “bite the hand that feeds me” doesn’t make sense. Let me assure you it wasn’t intentional but that doesn’t matter. It still hurts…

In a word, the drop card strategy is WELL established, post-it note marketing is not. Although this was unintentional, perception is reality and the truth is, I should have known better.

My goal was to offer another technique that I know from being in a room where the principles of this technique actually produced a rep.

It’s not fair to teach a strategy that is unproven which is why I felt that having experienced this first-hand lent credibility to the strategy. However, this is NO EXCUSE for putting down drop cards to build up post-it notes, intentional or not. I cringe at the thought of how this may have affected you or your organization financially.

My comments about the drop cards hurt many people, whether they know it or not, and I’m deeply sorry for that.

It hurt those of you who have purchased drop cards in full faith that they will get the results that you were told that they would. THEY WILL WORK.

It hurt those who earn a living on the sale of this time-tested proven strategy, and my comments served to cast doubt on something that has earned the utmost respect, AND JEOPARDIZED THEIR IMMEDIATE AND LONG TERM INCOME.

Please…don’t doubt drop cards. THEY ABSOLUTELY WORK. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose drop cards every time.

I would like you to accept this letter as my apology for damaging the reputation of drop cards, and anyone who uses or sells them. You deserve better from me, and I will be better.

I’ve learned from this experience that when you have influence you must be very careful in what you say as it steers the direction of people’s lives, and I hope my folly will serve some greater purpose in my life.

The Bible says that when a wise man is rebuked he is wiser still (Proverbs 9:8). I see this as an opportunity to grow in wisdom and I am grateful for the individual who brought this blunder to my attention.

Tough love is sometimes hard to take, but I’m thankful for those few people in my life who aren’t afraid to tell me the truth, even when it’s ugly – even when it exposes me.

Again, I apologize for my immature comments about drop cards. It won’t happen again.

Hey bro, I know you wouldn’t intentionally say anything to harm our businesses. I understand your passion to see people win and you were just sharing the difference between the two strategies. I appreciate you putting that awesome webinar together and I have mad respect for you partner.

Larry, your presentation last night was awesome!! I honestly didn’t think you slammed drop-cards but obviously you did – and that’s what counts. I’m not familiar with that strategy but I’ll have to give it a try.

I’m waiting patiently for the blog containing last night’s webinar (letter and qualifying questions, etc). Hopefully it’ll be up soon.

Thanks for all you do!

You set the bar pretty high, Larry. I’ve never used drop cards and I wouldn’t have guesses many people would be affected by your comment. you must have had some blowback. I admire your willingness to admit your mistake to your MLM community, even when you didn’t have to. I don’t think most people would have even noticed, but by offering your unabashed apology, you’ve set a good example for business people everywhere. I think this is a perfect example of the “butterfly effect”: by your generous apology and leadership, you’ll influence many more people than you’ll ever know.

I appreciate you being such a big person and posting the apology. Can you edit out that part and post the training for us to watch again and for those that missed such an awesome marketing strategy?????

Hey Larry. I agree with Andre. I enjoyed the webinar and appreciate your leadership in sharing the post it strategy. I didn’t get the vibe that you were suggesting post its over drop cards. To me you came across as someone who was enthusiastic about another offline strategy to add to the mix!! So again, thanks for sharing this information. I look forward to incorporating this strategy into my other offline strategies. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Larry,

Truly appreciate you being open with all of us. I know you weren’t trying to put down the Drop Cards – just sharing another strategy and using a comparison.

This is what makes you a great leader; openly admitting when you make a mistake and knowing that you are human.

Thanks for all you do!
