The One Sorely Ignored Attribute That Leads To Genuine Success In Network Marketing

blog photo 2One of the questions that I get asked the most is, “how do I get to the next level in my business?” Usually the expected answer is centered around such things as daily sales goals, monthly recruitment numbers, etc. However, most people are quite surprised that my perspective doesn’t revolve around these activities. So, what is the answer? In this article, I’m going to cover the ONE THING that has made all the difference in the world to my business beyond the daily efforts.

To be a great leader, it is impossible to accomplish this without first being a great server. I think most people get this confused and end up developing sickly business and can’t figure out why. Here’s the core of the problem: everybody is trying to get something out of their people (i.e. clients/downline) when instead the focus should be on what they can give, and to give with no desire of want or payment.

This is tough because we are taught to focus on sales, recruiting and the bottom line, which ARE important, but they should never take precedence over service to your internal (downline) and external (retail) customers.

My breakthrough came when I started focusing on what I call “the great giveaway.” I actually have a daily goal on how much I want to give away to my current clients and downline, as well as those who connect to me through my various websites. Now, I’m not talking about giving away products, samples, or for the most part any “tangible” items necessarily. What I’m saying is that, instead of focusing on getting people to attend a meeting, sample a product, read content, etc., I focus on what I can GIVE them that benefits their life whether or not they do business with me EVER.

If someone calls me and asks a question about how I accomplish a particular task, I don’t “tease” them with an answer then tell them to get the rest they have to buy my book or order my product. I’m very open and happy to share the details with them about what it is that they need. I realize that when you give from the heart, there’s no way you can be taken advantage of. How can someone steal something you willingly give away? As a matter of fact, I’ve learned that the more I give away, I end up receiving a much greater return than can be measured by what I gave.

IT MAY NOT COME FROM THAT PERSON, but it does in fact come. In the calendar year of 2009, I’ve given both tangible an intangible things to people and have watched my business skyrocket. Tangible things I’ve given away include books, software, a brand new heater, $1000 in cash, and a dryer to name a few. One notable intangible I gave away was coaching to a woman who “begged” me to give her a price for my services and I refused. I intentionally served her at the same level that I serve paying customers because I understand the laws at work.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that you need to stop and check your REAL motives. Are you simply trying to consume dollars to fund your lifestyle, or are you genuinely trying to improve the world around you? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with trying to become successful, even rich and wealthy. The problem comes when that is your ONLY focus. If you chase anything, that means that it’s running from you. You must learn how to get money to chase you, and let me right now share with you the secret: money LOVES to chase the unselfish person. Money literally FORCES ITSELF on the giver.

I want to encourage you to practice “the great giveaway” starting today and watch what happens in the next 30-90 days in your business.

How timely I found this post to be for my life. Today is the first day of a new nutritional protocol that I began following and I have also committed to a consistent writing schedule that begins today. I have always believed that to be a good writer, one must read. I must say, I love reading what you write. It is so inspiring, honest and the topics you share are simple to put into action; the hard part comes is taking consistent action.

I agree, it is all about giving back. I remember a challenge I came upon when I when was working towards an incentive goal a year ago with my primary business. I was so close to achieving my success, that I began to feel selfish. I was helping others, yes, but I felt that my focus had shifted on me and not my internal downline. I had to step back and ask myself the very question about my REAL motivation. If I had not taken a time out, I might have achieved my incentive; but it would have been with the the wrong mindset. My downline and customers are the reason that I do what I do. I improve my skills to better serve them and provide them with the best that I can offer.

Thanks for bringing to light an important quality for successful entrepreneurs.
